Data Management
Most individuals find the task of REGULARLY backing up their data to be an inconvenience and will put it off, usually after it's too late. Too often, we have customers who are frantic over the loss of important business data, personal data, or valuable photographs. Your data can be lost, destroyed, or damaged from an array of events (particularly, lightening surge, bad hard drive, etc.)
Backing up your data is EASY, AFFORDABLE, and TAKES VERY LITTLE TIME. Here's a plan of action for you and how to get started.
How large is the data file to be backed up?
The average home user is normally between 3GB and 5 GB, taking into account the amount of video, music, pictures and miscellaneous data which you may have. For those who collect large amounts of music and video files, we recommend burning those to DVDs rathern than including them in a daily or weekly backup. To find out the size of your data files, "right click" onto "My Documents" and go to "Properties". Then click onto the "General" file tab. The size of "My Documents" will be listed there.
What do I use to backup my data?
First, choose the type of device or service that best fits your need for data backup. The choices are:
backup locally using a removable media (i.e. DVD or jump drive)
backup to a server or network drive
backup to an online service such as
www.SOSonlinebackup.com
backup using Coastal Computer Solutions's periodic image backup (only $50 / year)
